In 2025, Penny Appeal Pakistan, an international humanitarian and development organization, joined hands with UNICEF to launch a multi-sector initiative that strengthens disaster preparedness and resilience in District Sujawal, Sindh. Located at the tail-end of the Indus delta, Sujawal is repeatedly exposed to cyclonic storm surges, monsoon floods, drought cycles and progressive sea-water intrusion. Building on evidence generated through earlier reports and analysis, the partners designed a comprehensive package that (i) equips local institutions with climate-resilient WASH and DRR know-how, (ii) empowers Union Councils and Town Committees to mainstream risk-informed planning, and (iii) tests the entire early-warning-to-evacuation chain through realistic, community-centered simulation exercises.
